Many skilled nursing facilities offer a rehabilitation program to help their
Residents recover and achieve their highest possible functioning level. Often,
rehabilitation is a collaborative effort of physical, occupational, and speech
therapies with rehabilitative nursing care. Rehabilitation is vital for helping
short-term Residents return to the community or helping long-term Residents
enjoy greater independence and a higher quality of life while in the facility.
All Foresight Management Service’s
facilities offer a rehabilitation program. Physical, occupational, and speech
therapies are all available with our highly-trained licensed therapists.
Some of the more common conditions that require rehabilitation include, major
surgeries, orthopedic conditions, strokes and heart attacks, and neurological
conditions.
Physical therapy assists Residents to regain previous physical abilities and
achieve a higher level of functioning. Strength and balance, mobility, and
pain management are common focuses. There are many conditions that benefit
from physical therapy, including major surgeries, strokes and heart attacks,
fractures, nerve damage, orthopedic conditions, and neurological conditions.
Occupational Therapy assists Residents to
perform activities of daily living, such as eating, dressing, grooming, and
cooking. The therapists work with Resident’s
loss of motor functions, sensory functions, and neuropsychological conditions
(such as memory loss). Occupational therapists also assists Residents with
transferring, such as from wheelchair to bed or toilet, and mobility, such
as suggestions for home accessibility modifications.
Speech therapy assists Residents with speech, hearing, language
skills, and swallowing abilities. A speech therapist can help a Resident speak
more clearly, use a hearing aid more effectively, and swallow without difficulty.
Speech therapists often work with Residents who have had a stroke, Parkinson’s
disease, head injuries, hearing loss or other conditions that cause dysphasia.
